How To Clean Silver Jewellery Overview:

How To Care For Silver

Caring for silver is as simple as creating a routine care plan. A quick wash with soapy water will keep your sliver shiny but you have to remember to do it periodically. All you have to do is mix a mild dishwashing soap in warm water and gently wash each piece of silver jewellery. We recommend removing the piece from your body before you attempt to wash it.

Once it is washed, Prince it and buff dry it with a soft lint-free cloth. We stock a range of silver cleaning cloths that can help you out. Storing your silver jewellery in a cool, dry and safe place will also prevent tarnish.

How To Clean Silver At Home

Cleaning silver at home can be achieved with a range of accessible household items. You'll likely have a lot of these ingredients lying around, but if you don't check out what you'll need below.

What You'll Need:

  • Boiling water
  • Aluminium foil
  • Pan, pot or boil
  • Bi-carb soda
  • Toothbrush
  • Soft cloth

Steps

Cleaning your silvery jewellery is a little bit different to cleaning gold jewellery and diamond jewellery. You’ll need some bi-carb soda, aluminium foil, a small bowl and some boiled water. This method can be used on either pure sterling silver jewellery or silver-plated items.

If your silver plated jewellery is taking on a brassy/ orange colour that is probably a sign that the plating is tarnished so it is important to take a good look at the item before you start to clean it. To start off with, grab your small bowl and line it with a piece of alfoil that is big enough to cover the bottom of the bowl.

Drop the jewellery in, sprinkle the bowl with the bi-carb soda, pour the boiling water in and move the items around with or fork so they clean themselves. The most important part is to make sure that each piece of jewellery touches the alfoil. Take out the items after a few seconds, rinse them off to remove the bi-carb and dry them off with a regular towel or a microfibre cloth.

This is the easiest way to clean your silver items if they require an in-depth clean. For a quick clean, you can use a regular silver cleaning cloth.
